Depathologizing Neurodivergence

Healing the Distance Between Us

A nervous-system-informed framework for therapists, helping professionals, and neurodivergent readers.

A Book About Nervous Systems, Trauma, and Cultural Effectiveness

Depathologizing Neurodivergence is an invitation to slow down, listen differently, and bring language to experiences that often live beneath diagnosis, behavior, and professional roles.

Written by Sir Aaron Mason, this book speaks to therapists, helping professionals, and neurodivergent readers navigating trauma, fragmentation, and systemic expectations.

The helping professions are skilled at naming trauma — just rarely their own, and even more rarely when that trauma lives inside a neurodivergent nervous system.

Through Cultural Effectiveness Training (C.E.T.), this book introduces a meta-framework for understanding how awareness and sensitivity become separated — and how coherence becomes possible when they are held together.

C.E.T. is not a clinical treatment model. It does not replace ethical practice or therapy. It offers language for lived experience, nervous systems, culture, and power.

This book does not seek to fix difference.

It offers language to locate it.

About the Author: Sir Aaron Mason

Sir Aaron Mason is a leadership coach, facilitator, and systemic thinker whose work centers nervous systems, culture, and lived experience.

Cultural Effectiveness Training emerged through his personal and professional journey navigating neurodivergence, trauma, and the helping professions. This book was written from the other side of collapse — as an act of honesty, accountability, and service.

If you are a therapist quietly struggling, feeling fragmented, or carrying more than you have language for — you are not alone.

If you are neurodivergent and have spent years adapting to environments not designed for your nervous system — you belong here.

This book is an offering.

Important Context for Readers

The content of this book is based on my lived experiences and my career in the helping professions. Some material may not be generalizable to all who identify as neurodivergent.

At times, I speak in absolutes to name systemic patterns. At the same time, I fully recognize the wide variation within neurodivergence. My intention is not to limit anyone’s experience to the perspectives in this book, but to offer language that may resonate, support reflection, and invite connection.

You are always the expert on your own nervous system.

What Is Cultural Effectiveness Training (C.E.T.)?

At its core:

Awareness + Sensitivity = Coherence

C.E.T. moves through five developmental stages:

  • Being

  • Psychology
  • Systems
  • Soul
